Denver Fair Parade Discontinued
At its March General Meeting, the Denver Fair Committee voted to discontinue the Wednesday evening Fair Parade. President Dennis Worley cited the increased cost of liability insurance, the projected cost of sponsoring a parade ($15,000), the goal of generating increased attendance on the fairgrounds on Wednesday evening, and the lack of volunteers as key reasons for the unanimous decision. Unknown to many community members, the Denver Fair Committee relies on sponsors to provide entertainment for our fairgoers. In order to pay our bills until all anticipated income is received, we are forced to take an annual loan of $12,000 to $15,000. The committee felt that the extra burden of raising an additional $15,000 for a parade is no longer feasible. When questioned about the expenses of a parade, President Worley informed the members that we pay for all of the musical units, including high school bands, to participate in the parade.
President Worley would like to thank the community for their support of our annual fair and encourages community members to become involved in the planning and operating of our yearly hometown event.
